A Personal Message

My love for music began as a  child. My sister and I loved singing and would entertain the family by singing gospel hymns and choruses as soon as the car was in motion on even a short trip to grandma’s house. I always sang in my school choir and was thrilled when my choir director asked me to sing a solo in our choir concert when I was in 6th grade. I still remember how proud I was to tell my mom when I got home. She must have been impressed, too, because I got a new dress for the concert! Shortly after my “debut” my parents began to notice how much I loved music. I am thankful for my paternal grandmother, who allowed my parents to move her old upright piano into our basement at home so I could begin lessons in the 6th grade. When I entered 10th grade, my youth pastor taught me about I, IV & V chords, and said I could play any hymn or gospel song if I knew these 3 chords in every key. Now it all made sense to me and I could play anything “by ear” and improvise. What a world of music this opened for me! My background includes degrees in music education and piano performance, 25+ years teaching experience in the classroom and private lesson studio, and more than 20 years of performance experience in church ministry. I’m a lifelong learner and am studying with Dr. Marianne Fleming Bryan. If you are seeking private lessons, music theory, or other kinds of music teaching for your children, I would love to meet you and talk with you about the possibilities of working together!

You are a gifted teacher and a blessing to us." L., Minnetonka
